Today I have some super fun 3D Heart Pop Up Cards you can make for Valentine’s Day. These pretty little hearts are easy to create too! And I will share two different ways you can use the pop up hearts in your card making.
The cards in this video feature products from the Stampin’ Up! From My Heart suite. However, keep in mind that you can use this pop up card technique with just about any shape. One of my favorite things about these 3D Hearts is that they will lay flat for mailing!
Creating the Pop Up 3D Hearts
So first let’s talk about how to create the little pop up 3D Hearts. The concept for creating the pop up hearts is similar to the pop up Christmas tree cards I created last year. You can check out those fun little pop up cards HERE.
To create the pop up 3D hearts, you will need a heart shaped die or a punch. You can also use these new heart shaped doilies to create the pop up section too. To create the pop up section you will need 3 or 5 heart shapes. The more heart shapes you use, the fuller the 3D heart becomes. You can clearly see the difference in this picture. The 3D heart on the card features 3 hearts. The other 3D heart features 5 hearts and is much fuller than the one on the card. The 3 or 5 heart shapes are simply folded in half and the “halves” are adhered together to create the 3D heart. Watch the video to learn more about creating these 3D hearts.
3D Heart Embellishment
Once you learn how to create the little 3D hearts, there are some fun ways you can use them in your card making. These two cards feature the 3D heart as an embellishment.
The first card showcases 3 heart shaped doilies adhered together to create the pop up section. The second card features 5 scalloped hearts adhered together to create the pop up section. The card design is exactly the same for both cards. The only difference is the type of 3D heart used for the pop up section. Again, you can clearly see how much fuller the 3D heart becomes when you use 5 hearts instead of 3.
Inside Pop Up Section
The 3D hearts certainly make super fun embellishments. However, they also make fun little surprises on the inside of the cards. Now this card looks like a “regular” Valentine’s Day card on the outside. But when you open it up, you find a fun little pop up surprise on the inside!
The concept for creating the 3D heart is the same. The only difference is that we are adhering it to the inside of the card (instead of the outside). Now there is a little trick to adhering it. You want to make sure that you line up the score lines on the 3D heart with the score line in the center of the inside of the card.
