Peaceful Boughs – Christmas Card Ideas

Today I have some Christmas card ideas to share with you featuring the Peaceful Boughs bundle from Stampin’ Up! I will also share some fun tips for using puff paint to create the snow-like effect on the boughs.

Peaceful Boughs - Christmas Card Ideas

I really enjoy creating tags as much as I enjoy creating Christmas cards. And tags make such a great gift giving idea too. I just recently shared a few fun elf tags along with a little gift box idea. You can view them HERE.

Creating Snow Covered Boughs

Have you ever used Puff Paint in your card making? Well once you learn how to use it, there is no stopping you! You will want to add a bit of puffy texture to everything!. Puff paint comes in a little bottle with a fine tip applicator which makes it easy to add it to the Peaceful Boughs. Simply shake up the paint bottle, apply the paint to the boughs and then heat to set. Once you start to heat it, the thin liquid puffs up to create this white texture on the boughs. Super fun!

As you can see, I used the puff paint on every single bough I added to the tag and the card. Haha, I love it! So to create these cards, I recommend a two step process. First, create the tag and then create the background for your card front (as shown above). To create the background for the card, cut out the large bough (using the coordinating die) from a piece of Shaded Spruce card stock. Adhere the bough to the card front using a a few glue dots. Once you have it adhered, then add the puff paint and heat to set. I highly recommend adhered the boughs first before adding the puff paint as it will be much easier to heat these little pieces when they are attached to something.

Creating the Christmas Tags

Now I created the Christmas tags separately from the background of the card. Actually, I created several tags before I decided to use them to decorate a card. To create the tags, cut a 2 x 4 inch piece of patterned paper and cut the top using a tag topper punch. For these cards, I used the Delightful Tag Topper punch from Stampin’ Up!

Using the coordinating die set, from the Peaceful Boughs, cut a small bough from a piece of Shaded spruce card stock. Adhere the bough to the top part of the tag with a few glue dots. Randomly add some puff paint to the bough and then heat to set. Add a few pine cone images and a little greeting. Embellish the top of the tag with a bit of Shaded Spruce Gold Striped Ribbon and a bit of linen thread. Once you have the tag created, simply add to the card front with dimensionals.

Embossing the Boughs

Since you are already using a heat tool to make the puff paint work, you might as well do a little heat embossing too! This particular card features the boughs embossed in white for the background. However, I also added a small bough with puff paint right in the center to give it more of a 3-dimensional look.

Besides the white embossing in the background, I also embossed the greeting for all of these cards. White embossing has a very dramatic effect when you use it on dark colors like Early Espresso and Black card stock.
