Today I have some quick and simple card ideas featuring the Feels Like Frost Designer Series Paper. This patterned paper has a variety of beautiful winter themed images on the front and some silver foil designs on the back. For these cards, we will focus on using the beautiful photographic imagery.
The Feels Like Frost Designer Series Paper pack contains 48 double sided sheets of 6 x 6 inch patterned paper. And I used an entire 6 x 6 inch sheet to decorate the inside and the outside of 2 of these cards with very little “wasted” paper. For more simple card ideas, check out my latest post featuring the Chalkboard Technique.
Simple Card Ideas
The first set of cards I want to share with you is one of the quickest and easiest ways to use the beautiful Feels Like Frost patterned paper. We are simply going to cut a 5 x 3-3/4 inch piece of the patterned paper and stamp a greeting directly on the paper.
Once you have a greeting stamped on the patterned paper, you can adhere it directly to the card base (as shown in the pic on the left). Or you can matte out the patterned paper by adhering it to a 5-1/4 x 4 inch piece of Night of Navy cardstock and then adhering to the card base (as shown in the pic on the right).
Now these are just two of the patterned papers in the Feels Like Frost DSP pack. There are a total of twelve different beautiful patterns to choose from so don’t limit yourself to just these two card designs.
Stepping Up the Cards
These next two cards are stepped up versions of the first two cards that I shared. We will still stamp the greeting directly on the patterned paper; however, this time we will create a focal point using a few die cuts.
Creating the focal point for these two cards is super simple! All you need is your favorite layering die cuts. For these cards I will be using the layering ovals and one of the stitched shapes dies. However, you can use any shapes to create the matted focal point for the card.
Start by cutting your patterned paper at 5-1/4 x 4 inches. (Note: Cut the paper at 5 x 3-3/4 inches if you plan to adhere it to a 5-1/4 x 4 inch matte as showcased with the purple card above.) Cut an oval shape from the center of the patterned paper. Next cut out another oval, from Night of Navy cardstock, that is slightly larger than the patterned paper oval. Adhere the two ovals together. Adhere the 5-1/4 x 4 inch piece of patterned paper to your card front and then adhere the matted ovals over the negative space. For the finishing touch, stamp a greeting in the center of the oval and embellish with some rhinestones.
Using Up the Scraps
Once you cut the patterned paper to create the cards featured above, you will be left with a 2 x 6 inch piece of patterned paper. Of course we can’t let that piece go to waste, right?!
So to create either of these two cards, take the left over 2 x 6 inch piece and cut it down to fit the card. For the card on the left, the piece measures 2 x 5-1/4 inches. The patterned paper measures 2 x 5 inches for the card on the right. For both of these cards I did a little stamping on the dark navy cardstock with some white craft ink. However, you could also emboss the cardstock to add a bit of texture instead of stamping on it. Then simply embellish the card with a greeting stamped on a large white oval.
I hope you enjoyed these quick and simple card ideas! Have a creative day! ~ Lynn
