Did you know you can quickly and easily change the look of your card simply by coloring your patterned paper? Well today I will show you how to take one card design and change it up a bit simply by adding some pops of color. The cards feature the new Come To Gather Designer Series Paper (DSP) from Stampin’ Up! The paper has some fun fall-themed images that are perfect for the coloring technique I am sharing today. Yes, we will be doing a bit of coloring but don’t worry, it’s quick and easy coloring.
The Card Design
First, let’s talk about the design of the card. Each of the cards that I am sharing with you today showcase some of the beautiful patterned papers from the Come To Gather DSP pack. The colors featured on these cards include Pretty Peacock, Early Espresso and Crumb Cake.
To create this card, cut a 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inch piece of Early Espresso cardstock. Score the 8-1/2 inch side at 4-1/4 inches to create the base of the card. Cut a 5-1/4 x 4 inch piece of one of the Come To Gather patterned papers and adhere it to the card front. Next, cut a 4-1/4 x 3-1/4 inch piece of Very Vanilla cardstock and a 4 x 3 inch piece of one of the pumpkin patterned papers from the Come To Gather DSP pack. Adhere these two pieces together and then adhere them to the card front on a slight angle. For the finishing touch, embellish the card with a greeting and some metallic pearls.
Coloring The Patterned Paper
Next, let’s use the same card design to create two more cards. For these cards, we are going to do a bit of coloring using the dark and light shade of the Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Blend. These are alcohol based markers so they blend right in with the design on the patterned paper. Plus, as an added bonus, they highlight the detail on each of the pumpkins. So cool!
The first card (on the left) features a bold look using the dark shade of a Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Blend. Most of the pumpkins are simply colored in with the dark colored marker; however, I did do a bit of shading on a few using the light marker. I love the bold look It adds some bold pops of color to the card.
The second card illustrates the effect of coloring the pumpkins with the light and the dark shades of the pumpkin pie Stampin’ Blend. Now I did not do any shading on the pumpkins. I simply colored the outer part of the pumpkin with the dark shade and the inner part with the light shade of Pumpkin Pie.
