Today I have some fun and simple dry embossing techniques to share featuring the new Perennial Essence Vellum. Now this is not your ordinary vellum. It has some unique little features that I’m sure you are gonna love!
Dry Embossing Techniques
The quickest and easiest way to add some depth, dimension and texture to your cards is through the use of dry embossing. It requires the use of some type of machine like the Big Shot, Cuttlebug, etc. Of course it also requires the use of embossing folders.
Embossing folder are most commonly used on regular cardstock. But they can also be used on vellum.
And when you emboss the Perennial Essence vellum…that’s when the magic happens!
The Perennial Essence Vellum comes in 3 different colors: Old Olive, Petal Pink and So Saffron. Besides the pretty new colors, the vellum has a different texture on each side. One side is shiny and the other side has a dull white coating on it. Now you can use either side of the vellum in your card making depending on the look you are going for.
The shiny side of the vellum looks like regular cardstock when it’s embossed. However, when you emboss the other side pf the vellum, the one with the white coating, you get a really cool two-tone look! The raised embossed areas are white while the rest of the vellum remains green (as pictured above)!
Perennial Essence Vellum Card Ideas
Now there are a variety of different ways that you can use this vellum. For the purpose of today’s card ideas, I will focus on some fun cards featuring some dry embossing techniques with the vellum.
The first card idea features the beautiful oval heirloom embossing folder which I used to emboss into the white coated side of the yellow vellum. The vellum turns white only on the embossed areas, the rest of the vellum maintains it’s yellow color. So cool!
The second card idea features embossing the vellum to create some pretty little embellishments for your cards. As you can see, this little vellum flower has a fun texture and design to it. And you can use any embossing folders you have on hand to create all sorts of cool embellishments for your cards. Just get creative with it!
