5 Home To Roost Card Ideas (Stampin Up)

The rustic style of country living comes Home To Roost with this fun set from Stampin’ Up! And today I have 5 card ideas to share that feature a variety of different ways to use the images in this set.  In particular, I will share some ideas for coloring the rooster with stampin’ blends, watercolor pencils and, my favorite, the use of all neutral colors to create a vintage style card.

Coloring With Stampin’ Blends

This first card features the rooster image as the focal point on the card with a neutral stamped background. The coloring was completed with the use of a variety of different colored stampin’ blends. If you are not familiar with stampin’ blends, they are alcohol based markers than enable you to easily color and shade your stamped images. The markers are available in light and dark shades in a variety of different colors.

Home To Roost - Stampin Up

For this Home To Roost card, start with a piece of crumb cake cardstock for the base of your card. Stamp the foliage image in the upper right and lower left hand side of the card using Early Espresso ink. The other image in the background is a lattice style stamp from the Climbing Roses set. It reminded me of chicken wire so I thought it would go well with the rooster. Cut a 2 x 4-1/4 inch piece of one of the Wood Textures Designer Series Papers and adhere it across the center of the card. For the finishing touch, stamp the rooster with early espresso ink and color it in with the Stampin’ Blends. You can find a complete list of the colors below.

Watercolor Pencil Techniques

This next card features two different neutral colors in the background with a pop of white. This card showcases a fun way to use the rooster image without adding a lot of color. It has a fun vintage or rustic style look to it. Plus, if you are not crazy about coloring, this may be the card for you!

Home To Roost - Stampin Up

For this card, start with a piece of early espresso cardstock for the base of your card. Cut a 5-1/4 x 4 inch piece of crumb cake cardstock. This is the piece you will do your stamping on. You will also need to cut a 1 x 4 inch piece of one of the Wood Textures DSP patterns. This use of the neutral colors along with some paper tearing and sponging, gives it a fun vintage style look! And the rooster, well, simply color in that image with a white watercolored pencil!

Vintage Style Card

This last Home to Roost card idea showcases a completely neutral color scheme using only early espresso and crumb cake colors.  It’s a simple card to create that really has an awesome rustic look.

This particular card showcases a fun crackle paint background. The crackled paint image is stamped on a piece of crumb cake cardstock using early espresso ink. A 2 x 4 inch piece of the Wood Textures DSP for the center of the card. Then simple stamp the greeting and rooster image on a scrap piece of crumb cake cardstock and cut it out with your favorite shape. Oh, you can also add a bit of linen thread across the center as well.

Additional Home To Roost Card Ideas

Now I also had to share these fun little card ideas. They are simliar to some of the other cards, however, they feature a bit of chicken wire. So I will apologize right now for teasing you with these cards as the chicken wire is no longer available through Stampin Up. For some reason I thought it carried over into the new catalog so I actually created these cards first! I still love them and if you happen to have any chicken wire left, you can use it up to create these fun cards!
