Lift Me Up

Hello Stampin’ Friends!  Today I have a fun project that is sure to “lift” your spirits!  The project showcases the new hot air balloon stamp set in the 2017 Occasions catalog called Lift Me Up. This particular stamp set has a coordinating set of thinlit dies too which makes it so easy to create adorable cards, like this one, in a snap!

To make this card, start with a piece of Basic Gray cardstock for the base of your card. Now the background on this card was created with the watercolor pencils and an aqua painter so be sure to use cardstock that can support the watercoloring technique. I used the shimmery white cardstock because it’s like regular cardstock only more durable. Cut a 5-1/4 x 4 inch piece of shimmery white cardstock (or other watercolor paper). Grab a set of watercolor pencils or you can use re-inkers (just put a drop of each color in a little painters tray). The colors used for the background are Real Red, Daffodil Delight and Bermuda Bay. If you are using the new pencils, simply grab each of the different colored pencils and color some lines across the page. Next, grab the aqua painter, fill it with water, and blend the pencil lines. It’s so simple it’s scary!  If you are using re-inkers, simply dip the aqua painter in the red ink and brush the ink across your paper. Squeeze a little bit of water from the aqua painter as you do this. The more water you squeeze out, the more dilute the color gets. Repeat the process with all three colors. Let dry. Then stamp a little sentiment in the lower left hand corner using the Gray Archival ink.  Cut out the detailed balloon, with the thinlit set and your big shot, using a piece of Whisper White cardstock and adhere it to the card with the fine tip glue pen. Just a little tip: I put some liquid glue, from the fine tip glue pen, on a scrap piece of paper…then, using a piece of sponge, I dabbed the glue all over the back of the balloon and then adhered it to the card. The sponge is a lot easier to work with because it spreads it on evenly so you don’t have glue leaking out from under the balloon when you try to adhere it.  For the finishing touch, embellish it with a few silver enamel shapes. Enjoy!
