Good Morning! Today I have a new technique for you! Well, it was inspired by the latest new fun fold card idea that happens to be all over Pinterest! I decided to play around with it because I thought it was so cool…and fun too! Plus it’s a great way to showcase some of those pretty patterned papers that you have been saving! The hardest part about creating this card is deciding what pretty paper you would like to use! Be sure to choose paper that has a pattern on each side as you will be folding it back on top of itself.
The technique is very simple! Start with a piece of patterned paper that is the exact same size as the card that you are creating…so, in this case, the patterned paper is cut to regular card size 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches. Now, on the 5 1/2 inch side of your patterned paper, make about 2 inch cut right in the middle of the DSP (Hint: the middle of the 5 1/2 inch side is 2 3/4 inches). Now take each “flap” of the DSP and fold it back on top of itself. You will notice that I used the botanical DSP so when I folded the “flaps” back I ended up with some dark green pattern on top of the floral pattern. Adhere each flap down with a few dimensionals. Then secure the entire piece to the front of your card with some snail or other adhesive.
Next, grab the Watercolor Wings stamp set. This is a 3-step stamp set. So you will be stamping the butterfly in 3-steps: the background color, wing tips and then the center design. I used 2 different color greens: Mossy Meadow and Pear Pizazz. You can achieve different shades of green (or any color) just by using the stamp off technique…that is, you can ink up your stamp, then stamp off the color on a scrap piece of paper before you stamp it on your project. Each time you stamp off the image it gives you a lighter shade of color. Once you have your butterfly stamped, cut it out with the coordinating thinlit. Don’t forget to stamp the body of the butterfly after you cut it out. Stamp a little sentiment in the opening of the “drapery” and adhere your butterfly, as shown, with dimensionals. Enjoy!
