Butterfly Squash Technique

work of art butterfly cardGood Morning!  Today I have a fun little technique to share with all of you!  I happened to run across this on Pinterest and was so inspired by it that I just had to create something with it! Thank you to Mary for the inspiration! I shared this little project with my demonstrator team at our meeting this month; everyone loved it! It has now been termed the butterfly swash technique by our team leader…because of the swash image you use to stamp the butterfly. I thought “butterfly squash” was a great name for this technique since we are squashing color onto the butterfly and the background! Haha! Well, whatever we call it, it’s a fun and simple way to create a beautiful card.  Simply cut out a butterfly, adhere it to a piece of card stock (with a few glue dots) and then “squash” the “swash” image onto the butterfly with your inked up stamp! The color goes onto the butterfly and the space around it!

Super simple, yet stunning result. To recreate this card, you can really use any color inks that you have on hand. I decided to go with the pastel colors such as blushing bride, so saffron and soft sky. I used the large “swoosh” image from the work of art stamp set to stamp the 3 different colors over the top of the butterfly.  For the finishing touch, I used the curvy corner trio punch to round the edges of the card and white card stock. Embellish the butterfly with a few pearls.

Thanks so much for visiting me today! Grab your stamps and get creative!  Enjoy!
