Vintage Butterfly Basics

Butterfly Basics VintageGood Morning and Happy Monday! I’m going to start off the week with a beautiful vintage style project for all of you! It has been awhile since I played around with some vintage style card designs…yes, I am long overdue for one! I love projects that showcase the old tattered look of vintage. So, let’s take a look at how to create this card.

Start with a piece of blushing bride cardstock for the base of your card. Cut a 5 1/4 x 4 inch piece of crumb cake cardstock. Grab your Butterfly Basics stamp set and your crumb cake ink. Start by stamping one of the sentiments in the lower right hand corner of the crumb cake cardstock. Stamp the little netting image 4 times on the upper half of the card. Stamp the little postage image as well. I used the “stamp off” technique to stamp all of the background images. Ink up your image and stamp it once on a scrap piece of paper and then stamp it, without re-inking, on your project.  It gives the image a more subtle look. Distress the edges of your cardstock with a distressing tool. Sponge a bit of crumb cake ink on the distressed edges and all over the front of the cardstock (to give it a worn look).

Next, cut out a butterfly using blushing bride cardstock and a piece of typeset designer paper. Use one of the butterfly framelits which coordinates with the Butterfly Basics stamp set. Layer the two butterflies together and set it on the top part of the crumb cake cardstock. Don’t adhere it yet because you want to use it as a guide so you can do a bit of paper piercing. The paper piercing is all free hand (sorry). If it helps, lightly draw out a squiggly design with a pencil…then just follow the line and pierce little holes into your cardstock. Once you have your paper piercing completed, simply adhere the butterflies to the top of the card so it looks like the paper piercing is coming out of the tail. For the finishing touch, embellish with some pearls. Enjoy!
