Moon Lake ~ Aqua Painters

moonlakeToday I have fun technique for all of you to try! This particular project showcases watercoloring with the use of aqua painters. Haven’t heard of aqua painters? Well they are fun little squeezable brushes that you fill with water. All you need is some ink and an aqua pen to achieve some beautiful watercoloring effects. So let’s take a closer look.

For this project, start by creating a subtle backdrop for your image. Cut a 5 1/4 x 4 inch piece of whisper white cardstock and stamp it in basic gray with the hardwood background image. The base of the card is a piece of sahara sand cardstock. Cut a 2 3/4 x 4 inch piece of whisper white cardstock…this is the piece you will do your stamping and watercoloring on. Cut a 3 1/4 x 4 inch piece of soft sky cardstock for matting out your stamped image. On the white piece, stamp the Moon lake image using memento ink. Grab one of your aqua painters and fill it with water. Put a drop of each color ink you will be using into a little artist tray.  Dip the tip of the aqua painter in the ink and start spreading it around on your project. The more you squeeze the aqua painter, the more water you will have mixed in with your ink, and the more diluted your colors will become. For this project, I didn’t squeeze the painter when I used it. I recommend that you practice using the aqua painter and inks on a scrap piece of paper to get the feel for how they work. Add a bunch of different colors to your project until you achieve the desired look. I will be putting together a video for all of you so that you can see this technique in action a bit better! But for now, just play around with the aqua painter and see what you can create! Enjoy!
