World of Dreams

Since I have been sharing a variety of cards which showcase “sponging” I thought this card would fit the theme nicely! This card was inspired by a good friend of mine, Sue Dumproff. She made a variety of beautiful cards with “sponged clouds.” And…she gave me some awesome templates to sponge with!

To make this card start with a piece of Hello Honey cardstock for the base of the card. Cut a 5 1/4 x 4 inch piece of early espresso cardstock for a matte; then cut a 5 x 3 3/4 inch piece of whisper white cardstock (this is the piece we will do the stamping and sponging on).  Start by randomly stamping the nature images from the World of Dreams stamp set….I used early espresso and mossy meadow inks.

Once the images are stamped across the bottom of the card, you can begin to sponge the clouds.  I used the awesome cloud template (see pic) but you can accomplish the same thing by cutting out a cloud design from a scrap piece of paper.  Place the template on the top part of the white cardstock and sponge some soft sky ink, lightly, around the scallops of the cloud template. I used a dauber so that I could be more precise with my scallops. I just kept randomly sponging as I turned the “cloud” template in different directions.  Overlap a few of the scallops so that the clouds look fluffy and bunched together. Once you have achieved the desired look, then sponge some color around the stamped images on the bottom (sponge right up to the clouds) using colors like hello honey, crumb cake and a bit of tangelo twist. Then add a little sentiment or just leave it without one.  It’s a fun and simple little technique that has such a beautiful effect! Enjoy!
