Ombre Technique

Well today is “Technique Tuesday” and I have a very simple technique to share with you!  It’s called the Ombré Technique. Ombré is a French word meaning “to shade” and is typically used to describe a color dying effect in which shades of color move from light to dark. You can use the Ombré technique with one color, shaded in a monocromatic scheme…or you can combine three complimentary colors.

To make this card, I started with a piece of whisper white cardstock for the base of the card. Cut 3 different shades of purple cardstock at 1 1/2 x 4 inches and emboss them with your favorite embossing folder (I used the fancy fan for this card).  The purple colors on this card are, from left to right, Elegant Eggplant, Perfect Plum and Wisteria Wonder. The butterflies are stamp in wisteria wonder. Then I just added a little thank you sentiment, a piece of a paper doily and some rhinestones to embellish. The Ombré technique is a simple way to add a bit of contrast to your projects. Enjoy!
