Sunburst Card

Here is one of the hottest trends in card making right now…the sunburst card!  I have seen a variety of different cards sportin’ this cute little pattern but I had no idea how to even put something like this together…until I saw a tutorial on YouTube! Thank goodness for YouTube!

Start out with a piece of whisper white cardstock for your card base.  Cut a 5 1/4 x 3 1/4 inch piece of pistachio pudding cardstock…you will use this to matte out the sunburst pieces. Cut out 3 different pieces of your favorite designer series paper (DSP) at 5 x 3 inches…I used the Venetian Romance Paper for this project. Stack all of the pieces of DSP together as you are going to make cuts through all three layers. Using your paper cutter, cut them in half at 2 1/2.  Next, take one set of the halves, slide it back into your cutter at an angle. The angle of the cuts doesn’t matter; all that matters is that all of the cuts radiate out from the bottom of the 2 1/2 inch center point. Make 2 angled cuts (remember to keep those papers stacked together). Take the other set of DSP halves and make 2 angled cuts.   You should end up with 6 different angled pieces.

Since you were cutting three different patterns of DSP, you should have enough pieces to put together 3 separate sunburst cards! Putting together the sunburst cards is like putting together a puzzle. Simply match up the different shapes to form three different patterned sunbursts. Once you have the puzzle pieces figured out, secure them to the top part of your whisper white card base.  Stamp your favorite sentiment on the lower right hand side of the card. Add a bit of crisp cantaloupe ruffled trim across the bottom of the sunburst.  Embellish the ruffled trim with your favorite flower stamp and a beautiful little In Color Boutique embellishment. You can make oodles of sunburst designs just change out the DSP. Give it a try!
