Scrappy Hearts

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! If you are like me, you probably have a variety of heart themed items on your crafting table right now. I have a bunch of different sized hearts cut from many different colors of paper as I have been working on my Valentine’s Day cards. I usually start out with an idea…a vision for how I want the card to look. However, more often than not, I end up completely changing the design once I start to cut the pieces and lay them out on the card front. This usually results in a lot of leftover scraps. Sound familiar?

Well here’s a little challenge for you. Instead of putting the scraps in a drawer, challenge yourself to create something right away with them. One of my favorite ways to use up scrap paper and shapes is simply to layer them together to create a little “collage” of sorts. This particular card that I am sharing with you today was created with some scrap paper and extra hearts that I had cut for a different project but didn’t use.

By challenging myself to use up some of my scraps, I also found a fun new color combination for Valentine’s Day. It’s a win-win! I just love using up scraps, don’t you?

Sure Do Love You

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner!  It’s that time of year that we do a little extra to let those special people in our lives know how much we love them. This year I plan to give out little love notes every day leading up to Valentine’s Day!  I thought it would be fun to give my hubby a little handmade love note every day. I plan to put them in a variety of different places each day until February 14th. Just a little note to let him know how special he is to me.

So to accomplish this…I created a bunch of love notes using the Sure Do Love You Bundle from Stampin’ Up! This bundle of products along with the little narrow note cards were perfect for creating a variety of love notes! How fun are these?

The note cards are 2-1/2 x 4-1/2 inches and they fit neatly in the little Valentine’s Day box that I created too. The Sure Do Love You Bundle comes with the stamp set and the Love Box dies which makes it super simple to create the box and a variety of love notes! Although I plan to use box to package up some fun treats, you could use it to package up a set of note cards to give to someone as a gift!  So many fun things to create!

Spray of Hearts

Hello Stampin’ Friends!  Hope you are enjoying your weekend!  I have been busy creating a variety of different “love themed” cards that can be used for Valentine’s Day or any other celebration of love. Today’s project was inspired by some stamped images that I had right in front of me on my grid paper. I use a piece of grid paper while I am stamping so that I can practice stamping my images before I put them to a project. I also use grid paper to make sure I don’t get any ink on my craft table. 🙂  Since I was making Valentine’s Day cards, I had a lot of heart images randomly stamped on this paper. That’s when the idea for this card hit me! And I learned that sometimes inspiration is right there in front of me!

To make this card, start with a piece of Pool Party cardstock for the base of your card. Cut a 5-1/4 x 4 inch piece of whisper white cardstock. Find a small heart shaped image; I used the image found in the Sealed with Love stamp set. Start in the upper left hand corner of the white cardstock and, using Pool Party ink, randomly stamp the image diagonally across the card. Use the “stamp off” technique which means you stamp the image and then stamp it again without re-inking. Then switch colors and repeat the stamping process. I used Real Red ink for the second color. Once you have a “spray” of hearts across your card, use the small splatter image, from the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set, to add some silver embossed speckles. Simply ink up the splatter image with some Versa Mark and stamp the image over the hearts, sprinkle with silver embossing powder, tap off the excess, and heat to set. For the finishing touch, emboss a little sentiment on a scrap piece of pool party cardstock, and adhere to the card with a few dimensionals! Enjoy!

Valentine gift set heartsThe final Valentine’s Day project I have for you is this adorable card and treat box gift set. This past week I have shared a variety of different projects that you can put together with those tiny treat boxes. They are really fun to play with, don’t you  think? 🙂 So let’s talk about how to make this set.

Start with a piece of real red cardstock for the base of your card. Cut a 5 1/4 x 4 inch piece of basic black cardstock and a 5 x 3 3/4 inch piece of whisper white cardstock.  Stamp one of your favorite sentiments in black on the top of the white cardstock (or in this case I used the love sentiment from the Hello Life stamp set). Emboss the whisper white cardstock, just under the sentiment, with the Happy Hearts embossing folder (leave the sentiment hang out of the embossing folder before your send it through the big shot). Punch out 5 little hearts with the punch in the Itty Bitty Accents Pack. I used real red cardstock, glimmer paper and some designer paper to coordinate with the treat box….but you can use anything that you have on hand! You can also add a bit of 1/8 inch silver ribbon to the top to bling it out even more.

For the treat box, just grab some of your favorite patterned paper, or use the Stacked with Love papers, and cut out a little 1/2 inch banner for the box. Stamp a fun sentiment on the front of the box as shown. Then decorate it with your patterned paper, some hearts and a bit of ribbon tied to the lid of the box. Fill it with your favorite candy and enjoy!

Hey Valentine

Valentine gift set kidsHey Valentine! Here’s another fun little project using those tiny treat boxes.  In case you didn’t notice, you get 25 little treat boxes in each pack!  And there are lots of fun little holidays coming up that you could put these treat boxes to good use! You know, holidays such as Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day…well, you get the idea.  The great thing about these little treat boxes is that you can decorate them anyway you like!

So let’s take a closer look at this project. For the card, I started with a piece of crisp cantaloupe cardstock for the base of the card. Cut a 5 1/4 x 4 inch piece of whisper white cardstock and emboss it with the Happy Hearts embossing folder. Cut a few coordinating pieces of designer paper, from the Stacked with Love pack, at 4 x 1 1/2 and a smaller piece at 3 x 1 inches. Next, cut another piece of crisp cantaloupe cardstock at 2 x 4 inches…use the scalloped tag topper on one end and tear a bit of the paper off on the other end. Add a bit of your favorite ribbon to the tag top and tie some linen thread around it. Stamp the fox image from the Hey Valentine set on a piece of white cardstock, punch it out with the note tag punch and color it with your markers or blendabilities.

For the treat box, simply grab one of the boxes from that pack of 25 that you have and emboss it with the Happy Hearts embossing folder.  Yes, the boxes fit perfectly in the embossing folder because they come flat in the pack (put the box together after you emboss it). Then simply decorate the box with some of the designer paper you have or, in this case, I added a bit of Stacked with Love washi tape. Embellish it with a bit of ribbon and a tag! Then just enjoy!

Valentine’s Day Gift Idea

valentine home decor projectValentine’s Day is about a month away! Yeah, I can’t’ believe it either! I figure I better get some project ideas out there for you now because it will be here before you know it! This particular project was actually inspired by my 2-year old grandson.  We were “crafting” together one day…actually he was just randomly gluing buttons on a piece of paper and having a blast!  Our crafting episode inspired me to create this adorable little home decor piece and it was a great way to use up some of the buttons that I had on hand!

To make this project, you will need a 5 x 7 picture frame. Cut a piece of your favorite designer paper that has a black and white pattern on it. For this project, I used one of the patterns from the Back to Black Designer Series Paper (DSP). Cut that piece to 5 x 7. Next, take one of the medium size heart framelits and cut out a black heart. Don’t worry…we will make it red. 🙂  Secure the black heart to the center of your DSP. Stamp some real red hearts around the outside of the black one as shown in the picture. Grab all of the red buttons you can find and randomly arrange them on the black heart. You can also stamp a little “love” sentiment in the center as shown or just fill up the heart with buttons. I ran out of buttons so I also added a few real red candy dots. Once you have a pattern you like, secure the buttons to the black heart using glue dots. For the finishing touch, add a white bow to the bottom of the heart and then put your masterpiece in the frame!  Enjoy!

Sheltering Tree Valentine

heart tree valentineNeed a few quick and simple Valentine’s Day card ideas? Well check out these fun little projects showcasing the new Sheltering Tree and Hello Life stamp sets. These cards are commonly referred to as CAS ~ Clean and Simple. CAS cards have very few if any layers and are quick to put together.  Let’s take a look and both of these projects…

The first card showcases both the Sheltering Tree and Hello Life stamp sets. There are absolutely no layers to this card, you simply stamp the images on a whisper white piece of cardstock (which is the base of you card). Start with the sheltering tree stamp set. Stamp the tree image on the left hand side of the card using using black ink. Grab a light pink (Pink pirouette works perfect) and stamp the shadow under the tree and the shadowy leaf images on the top of the tree. For the finishing touches, use the Hello Life stamp set. Randomly stamp the little hearts in the tree using real red ink and stamp the love sentiment across the bottom.  That’s it! Clean and simple, right?

The second project also showcases these 2 stamp sets. For this project, I left out the pink background colors and stamped just using real red and black. Stamp the tree image and hearts in the middle of the card (the same process we used above). Punch out a little heart shape using a scrap piece of real red cardstock and adhere it to the middle of the tree with a dimensional. Stamp the love sentiment on the bottom and you are done! This particular card is a more masculine type of design simply because I left out the pink color. 🙂 Enjoy!
